In a better world, Jayhawk fans would feel sweeter. Oh, they feel sweet already. But it's sweet with sour. Their blood is up, and some of it is bad blood. KU's basketball team plays Roy Williams tonight. Or is it North Carolina they play? With the sour talk about Roy, you'd think it was Roy.

Roy coached the Jayhawks for 15 years. Then he left for North Carolina in 2003.

Judas, many fans said.

There are sour fans like that.

But there are other fans. Superfans.

People like Mike Maddox, who played for KU.

Or like Francis Carr, so sick this week he thought he might die, so devoted to KU that he got breathing treatments to get to the game alive tonight.

They have given KU money, blood, sweat and decades of devotion.

They say Roy-bashing turns their blood cold.

They like him even if he wins tonight.
