John Barry: TAMPA — Railroad man Joe Guggino isn't always the best guy to watch baseball with. He hates beer. He doesn't bet. He can't hear so good. He tells a very bad joke about two honeymooners on a train going north. The conductor delivers the punchline: "NO-FOKE VIRGINIA." He insists every good Rays player is Italian and he misses Baldelli. If B.J. Upton gets a home run, he says Upton is Italian for a day.
But we've watched Rays baseball together for five years. We're missing Sunday's game against the Yankees. He turned 100 today. His birthday party is tomorrow. But he'll be checking the score.
