Members of the writing group at The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel have been discussing this story by The Oregonian's Inara Verzemnieks, a Pulitzer finalist this year for feature writing. An editor here said, 'Well, a good writer ought to be able to get the White Trash Pageant on 1A.' A couple of us said that in this case the tone of the story elevates it. Many reporters would have been tempted to riff on the pageant without looking for something deeper.
